Workout Quickies – Recreate Skates With Ankle Weights!

As you may have gathered from the title, this one’s about recreating the feeling of having skates on your feet by using ankle weights!

I’ve been thinking about trying this for a while but was spurred on to give it a try after finding my new skates SO WEIRD and different from my football boots. I figured, if I want to feel agile again, I need to get used to having something heavy on my feet. Well, slightly heavier than my football boots anyway!

You could do any workout with these ankle weights on but I reckon working on agility and jumps with them is a really good start. If you can have Furieux style quick feet with the weights on it’ll help you do the same on skates!

Doing this right before skating would be a great warm up and prep your legs for having skates slapped to the end of them.

In this short video I do hurdles, quick feet, jumps and hops and throw in a few lunges and core stuff. I also did box jumps, skater jumps and bench hop overs which I didn’t film, durr.

If you have any ankle or knee problems, please exercise with caution! If you feel any twinge of pain, please stop.

If you don’t have access to a gym, you can get ankle weights weights everywhere, they’re usually in TK Maxx and I’ve recently seen them in Tiger and Asda!
